Easter is the central celebration to the Christian faith and yet so often its true meaning seems to be crowded out and neglected. We rush away on holidays and outings, or concentrate on getting the garden into shape before the winter, or maybe organising the house after the chaos of first term. We may scoff at the fluffiness of the Easter bunny and the glitter of foil-wrapped eggs, but feel unable to compete with their attractiveness for children.
Ever since people first saw a new, live chick breaking its way out of something that looked lifeless – an egg – people have thought of eggs as symbols or reminders of new life. For Christians, Easter eggs are reminders of Jesus’s new life and the hope the resurrection brings. They remind us that Jesus rose from the dead and that those who believe in Him can share this new beginning.
My prayer is that you and your family can experience anew the hope and celebration of new life as you celebrate these Holydays during our Holidays!
