From the Head of Junior School

Congratulations Year 6
I have been so impressed with the proactive leadership our two Junior School Captains, Tiffany Bailey and Harrison Carr, have shown from the beginning of term. At the leadership induction Assembly last Friday, they led the Year 6 students in pledging their commitment to remembering leadership is about action not position, and that all Year 6 students will lead by example in all they do. This Assembly recognised the students who have formal leadership roles though, most importantly, it also recognised the role all Year 6 students have in being leaders and role models for all the students in Junior School.

I would like to farewell and acknowledge the very good work of Karen Wood, one of our integration aide team members, has done in supporting many students during her time at Junior School. Karen is leaving at the end of the week to commence further study in education at Deakin University, and I am sure she will make a wonderful teacher in the future. We have appointed two new integration aides – Helen McDonald who will take over Karen’s case load and Anna Bennett who will support the Prep and Year 1 cohort. Helen will commence next week and Anna, who currently works at Donvale, will commence in Term 2.

Staff News
Mark English, classroom teacher for 2E, is taking personal leave for the rest of the term. We are fortunate that Chris Pearce, who is very familiar with the Junior School is replacing Mark. Chris has been a very reliable emergency teacher, working in Learning Development replacing Bronwyn Vary last year, and most recently replacing Janine de Paiva while she was on sick leave.

Easter Eggs
I would like to emphasise with parents that, in support of our anaphylactic students, you refrain from purchasing Easter Eggs for students to share at School. The JSPA supports a special surprise for the students that is carefully managed to support all children. It is difficult when this work is compromised by well-meaning parents and students who give buddies or friends extra eggs. Classroom teachers, as well as Heads of House, will be making it very clear that children are not to bring Easter Eggs to School. It will also be clarified in Assembly. Thank you in anticipation of your support with this request.

Prep Parent Welcome Evening
I am looking forward to seeing lots of Prep parents at the welcome evening on Wednesday 9 March from 7.00pm in the foyer of the De Young Centre for Performing Arts.
