Despite last weekend’s sweltering heat, it was great to see so many of our community coming together at our Carey Sports Complex to celebrate Carey’s Australian sporting captains and the rich history of our school in Bulleen.
A special thank you to our captains Meg Lanning (2009), Peter Robinson (1991), James Tomkins (1983), David Wansbrough (1982) and Graham Yallop (1971) and members of their families for attending. It was wonderful to welcome them all back to Carey and to honour their contribution to Australian sport.
A highlight of the event was the unveiling of the plaques on the Captains Scoreboard, recognising each of these alumni captains who have represented Australia with distinction and honour. The Scoreboard is a tremendous asset to our Carey Sports Complex and was constructed with the generous support of the Oppy family.
Following the unveiling, we were fortunate to hear a fascinating presentation from David Rimington, a longstanding and valued member of our Carey teaching team. His presentation featured an inspiring and well researched history of our school in Bulleen and the site prior to Carey purchasing it in the 1950s.
