Professional Development Program
Our professional development program is not just about professional skills, it is about helping our staff to genuinely be the best person — in mind, body and spirit — that they can be. As such, our staff wellbeing program offers many opportunities to step outside of professional roles and achieve something for personal health and happiness: socialise, learn a new skill, get involved in community work, meditate, worship or exercise.
Carey is committed to a dynamic and stimulating Professional Learning and Development culture that broadens and extends our staff skill set, and enhances the learning experiences for our students. Part of this commitment is to provide all of our staff with appropriate, challenging and rewarding professional development.
Our staff have the opportunity to study for for further qualifications; attending a course or workshop; participating in subject association or local discussion groups; preparing and delivering a paper, addressing or workshopping a topic relevant to the profession; mentoring of new staff, provisionally registered teachers or student teachers; or joining a professional reading group. We also offer generous financial support for staff members who choose to embark on formal postgraduate study. We also encourage our staff in their commitment to their Professional Development with a pay bonus each December for completing the requisite hours.
On Monday afternoons and staff professional development days, we convene seminars and workshops for staff at school. These might include ICT and eLearning skills; wellbeing and positive education workshops; sporting activities; or personal skills activities.

Carey also offers staff the opportunity to enrol their children in our Early Learning Centre, which has a day-care facility exclusively for staff children from the ages of 6 months until the beginning of 3-year-old Kindergarten.
All people employed by the School must be eligible to work in Australia. Teachers must hold current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT). It is a legal requirement within Victoria, that all staff employed by schools not holding a current VIT Registration must hold a current Working With Children Check (WWC).
